University of Pennsylvania (1940) Artist: McKenzie, R. TaitNationality: USA Time Period: 1938-1940 Dimensions: 3" diameter Type of Work: Medal Medium: Bronze Price: $400 Plus shipping and insurance This medal is a real find for admirers of McKenzie, America's foremost sculptor of young athletes in the first decades of the 20th century. While at first this doesn't seem like a typical McKenzie piece -- and indeed was struck two years after his death -- the obverse shows clear signs of his stamp. The central pier is topped by two heads, back-to-back: Benjamin Franklin (founder of the University, and a favorite subject of McKenzie's) looking left, and a handsome youth (another favorite subject) looking right. At the base of the pier is McKenzie's familiar monogram. To Order: Click on the "Add to Cart" button above. You will be redirected to use PayPal payment solutions.
