Among connoisseurs of American sculpture, DeLue is widely known for his figures with hugely exaggerated musculature, long, mannered limbs, and elastic body positions -- electrically alive in an expansive cosmos. Here, De Lue depicts the creation of the universe, with the Creator striding upward amidst galaxial bodies, trumpeting angels and rising human figures; on the reverse, the creator is shown again, in a more restful pose, with the sun in one hand and the fearful figure of man in the other. This piece was issued in 1957 as the 56th issue of the Society of Medalists.
