Sculpted by a renowned ceramicst and painter -- Geza de Vegh -- this is a rare porcelain piece with a lustrous black glaze produced by Lamberton Scammell in Trenton, New Jersey. The company commissioned de Vegh to sculpt a series of figurative pieces, all stylized and sophisticated, not unlike the best work of Lenox, located nearby. De Vegh co-authored a major text on pottery-making: The Craft of Ceramics published in 1956.
