This bronze medallion showing three hurdlers in full stride is considered by some to be Tait McKenzie's finest work in bas relief. A larger version was displayed at the 1912 Olympic Games in Sweden and was offered to the host nation as a permanent memorial to the fifth Olympiad. Unlike many other medals designed by McKenzie, this example is struck on only one side, and can be displayed flat as a paperweight or stood up on a stand. McKenzie's elegant juxtaposition of three hurdling athletes has the feeling of a classical frieze, and yet it is full of youthful energy.
