Nudes with Horses

Closely associated with the Hollywood community in the 1930s and 1940s, Kenneth MacIntire became known for his portraits of horses. His skill is evident in the masterful way he handles the horse at the center of this drawing. The grid superimposed over the frolicking nudes suggests that MacIntire drew this in preparation for a wall mural, and given its frothy subject, the mural may have been located in a club or bar in the Los Angeles area.
