Dating from the last few years when late Art Deco buildings incorporated figural panels in their facades, these two fanciful bas reliefs were sculpted by Chuck Dodson, an artist active in the Miami area, for the Dupont Plaza Hotel in downtown Miami. Composed of cast stone or concrete, and exhibiting a handsome patina from years of exposure to Miami weather, both panels celebrate the sunny life of South Florida: one depicts a man and woman sunning on the beath with drinks by their sides, and the other shows two women swimming in the ocean. Both are full of joie de vivre and whimsy!
