Oil Sketch for "Music"

A relaxed grouping of several nude figures executed in pale tones of ivory, mossy green and flesh, this study for an allegorical painting was owned by -- and used as one of its models -- Walter E. Baum, the renowned Bucks County, Pennsylvania landscapist. In addition to the nude male figure inspired by Baum, this 1946-vintage, lyrical piece features two female nudes -- one modeled after a professional model -- and one seated nude boy, seen in profile. Conner studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia, and won a medal for his work exhibited at the Sesquicentennial Exposition in Philadelphia in 1926. His works are in the collections of the Academy and the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
