Begun in the early days of the Great Depression, and committed to high quality production and stunning graphics, Fortune magazine hired a series of artists to create dramatic, riveting images for its covers during the 1930s and 1940s. Here, the artist has created a dramatically telescoped vantage point, with the eggs in the foreground looming large, and the approaching farmer just a small figure in the distance. Beautifully painted in vivid gouache colors, this is a rare original work for a landmark publication in the 1930s.
